Brentwood's Garden

Brentwood's Garden
Brentwood has teamed up with the Mojave Water Agency and Tony Bonato, masonry professor at VVC to create four gardens for the students to enjoy. As each grade level at Brentwood focuses on a different aspect of the environment, the second grade focus is on gardening. The second graders take on the task of tending to the garden and planting things like flowers and different types of vegetables. The students are able to dig deeper into their environmental unit by participating and experiencing for themselves the effect they can have on the environment, the outcomes of caring for something over time, and observing the life cycles of different plants. As the garden grows, the next step will be to build a shed and the school hopes to continue their environmental efforts by composting the leftovers from the kitchen.
